Sfântul Ioan cel Nou
judetul Suceava

Location: Suceava municipality, Suceava County.

Abstract: Mănăstirea Sfântul Ioan cel Nou (Saint John the New) is a monastery for monks (mănăstire de călugări) founded in 1514 by Bogdan III, son of Ştefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great), and finished by Ştefaniţa Vodă (Little Stephen) in 1522.

Exterior paintings on the southern side date from the time of Petru Rareş (Peter Rares), most of which have faded considerably. Here are found the relics of Sfântul Ioan cel Nou from Suceava, who was martyred at Cetatea Albă (the fortress of Alba) in the 14th century. The monastery was restored between 1976-1991.

It was raining when we arrived, so I mostly sheltered under the trees, taking just a few photos for memories.

Dedication: 23 April ("St. George" day).
