Piatra Neamţ
judetul Neamţ
Piatra Neamţ (Piatra Neamt) is the County Seat of Neamţ County. Piatra means rock and Neamţ means German, so the city's name literally means German Rock. It's a picturesque town surrounded on all sides by towering mountains.
In the center of town, you'll find a small park that has a statue of Ştefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great). To the side, you'll find steps that lead to Piaţa Libertăţii (Liberty Square), the historic district of Piatra Neamţ. There you'll find the muzeul curtea Domnească complex (Princely court museum) (see photos), which was founded in 1497 by Ştefan cel Mare. It includes a 10 m tall bell tower and biserică Sfântu Ioan (St. John's Church; 1498). You'll also find several museums (we toured them to get out of the rain, but were not allowed to take photos inside).
