Predeal
judetul Braşov
Predeal claims to be the highest (1033 m) ski resort in Romania. While that is true, it's definitely not Romania's hottest skiing spot. Unlike its sister resort, Poiana Braşov (Poiana Brasov), Predeal has just a couple of slopes. Few tour groups come here. Thus, you're more likely to find hordes of local students on holiday than tourists.
We spent very little time in the city. Instead, Elena (my sister-in-law who drove) insisted that she knew about a nice restaurant at the top of a hill. Well, the hill ended up being a mountain, and it took me a long time to climb (with frequent rest breaks). It was very hot that day and the road was too steep for her small car to make it ... so we trudged up the mountainside.
We never made it as far as the restaurant Elena wanted me to see, but she saw I was getting red in the face (wimpy American that I am), so we stopped at another restaurant that was only three-fourths of the way up the mountain. That's where I took the photo of the gazebo. By the time we stumbled back down the mountain, I was too tired to take any more pictures.
